work space

Studio

The only thing i am missing about college at the moment is having my own work bay where i pin up all my inspiration. I have work space at home but its in my bedroom so i cant really get too messy and if i do ive got to clean it up at the end of the day and im not a big fan of cleaning up. But yesterday i decided to make an effort to re-create an inspiration board/mood board on my wall by my desk so when im working all my inspiration is right there infront of me instead of having to check through image folders on my laptop. This is just a start and im sure it will grow bigger and better.

Christine Castro Hughes

Since joining The Sketchbook Project ive kinda got back into my college routine when beginning a new project of researching and scouring the internet for ispiration.
I was flipping through some of my books and figured the book 'An Illustrated Life' would be a good place to start. Its full of great artists and illustrators but Christine Castro Hughes work caught my attention as she does lots of light hearted doodles and collages, aswell as combining lots of writing and lists. Her works has given me loads of ideas and gets me excited about filling up my sketchbook.
I would reccomend this book to anyone who is interested in illustration and fine art as there are also a fair few paintings and fine artists featured in the book, also if you are trying to get back into the swing of sketchbooking.

The Sketchbook Project

Ok so as promised here is the first page of my sketchbook.
The first page of any sketchbook is always quite daunting. Im always scared incase i mess up, it takes me a while to feel less precious about my work.
I felt i needed to do a kind of introduction so i drew myself which is actually a relly bad idea i realised halfway through the sketch. I dont think it looks particularly like me at all but nevermind that probably a good thing. I plan on taking the sketchbook apart and having it spiral bound and adding different types of paper so this may not and probably wont end up being the first page.

Ruche Wishlist

I came across a lovely little website today for some online window shopping. Ruche website which i found via Carly's blog.
Typical to find the cutest things when i am so low on funds.

The Oxford flats are so cute i really really want them. They would go with everything, including dresses especially since i hardly ever wear heels due to being a giant.
I also seem to favour wearing clothing thats either black grey or navy, especially navy dressed i seem to have a fair few... well one more couldnt hurt?
....and i would obviously need a bag to complete the outfit, can't have too many of them either!

The Sketchbook Project

I squeeled with excitement when i read my emails today.
My sketchbook for The Sketchbook Project has been shipped and should be here in a couple of days.

The Sketchbook Project is a project which anyone from anywhere in the world can get involved with. Everyone who signs up gets sent a sketchbook and a theme (you pick or one is randomly assigned) and away you go. Themes don't have to be stuck to rigidly, more of a starting point which is handy since i always tend to stray away from my original themes. My theme is 'Happy Thoughts' I plan to fill the sketchbook with anything that makes me smile, family friends...(drawings/photographs that is), places, photographs... well thats my intention anyway who knows where it will end up

Sketchbooks must be mailed back by the 15th of January 2011. Then the sketchbooks go on a tour of the US! Starting in Brooklyn then travelling to cities such as San Francisco, Seattle and Chicago. Even making it to Austin, Texas during the SXSW festival. I wish i could travel with my sketchbook.

Everytime someone checks out your sketchbook you get a notification via text or email so you can keep an eye on how popular your sketchbook is, very popular obviously :P

Once your sketchbook has travelled cross-country it makes its way back to the Brooklyn Art Library, NY. Your sketchbook pages can then be uploaded to their website so your work will be online for all to see.

I think this project is just what i need to get me back into the swing of keeping all my thoughts, ideas and inspirations in a sketchbook. Its just not the same doodling and jotting things down in different books and sheets of paper. Its a great way to get so many different people to see your work and the show has even gained publicity from CNN, PBS and Time Out NY

Once my sketchbook arrives and i get some work down i will keep you updated with my progress and would love to hear peoples thoughts.
