Final Major Project

so the minor project is over, bring on the final major project.
my theme is Americana, kind of a continuation for my minor project but different??
ive started a couple of drawing in my concept book...
Uncle Sam

the scale is a bit off, it gradually gets bigger towards the right of the bill and George Washington just had a smudge for a face coz im not good with faces but not that bad for an 11pm drawing on a wendesday night

Work Experience

Im getting more worried by the day as my life as a student is slipping away a little too quickly for my liking and then i have to enter the big bad world of full time work, im so worried about it.
But i figured the more experience at it i have the better i will feel and the better it will look to employers and gain insight into how managing your own business works if i decide to set up all on my lonesome.
In april/may this year i did work experience with Abigail Brown in London and got some insight into how she manages her own business and got to make some of these super cute birds.

Yesterday i started my placement with Punky Pins who create jewellery and clothing. I spent all day making jewellery, opening and closing jump rings my hands were so sore from using pliers all day but it was really good fun and everyone who works there was really nice .

Inspiration

whilst flipping through some books for inspiration i came across some artists which i thought were relevant to my work... i am creating 8 samples which are intended to be made into cushions, each inspired by a different state/city etc
i really wanted to focus on free hand machine embroidery and make it really tactile and messy i dont want it to look all neat and perfect thats not very me
anyway here is where i found some inspiration...

Marloes Duyker
I like all the loose threads left on her work making it seem kind of unfinished and playful

Eleanor Bowley

i like the unevenness of the stitches, she achieves this by working from back to front making the final outcome very unpredictable

Sandrine Pelletier

my favourite is the bottom piece with all the messy threads left on

happy halloween!

As pretty much everything is in america halloween is bigger and better.
While i have been in florida ive seen some amazing houses decorated and crazy costumes, people go to alot of effort for this holiday.
Im so used to this time of year at home being dark and cold it doesnt seem right to be celebrating halloween when its so hot and sunny

Florida & Diana Ross

Finally arrived in Orlando last night after what seemed like an eternity of travelling which was... an experience, as it was just me and my brother travelling so we had to figure out where to go, what gates, flight delays etc by our selves, usually we just follow wherever our dad leads us.

The weather is nice and sunny but not as humid as usual which is great as usually its so humid you cant stay out in the sun too long... plus it makes my hair similar to Diana Ross's

So while im here and missing 2 weeks of uni the idea is to continue writing my dissertation and doing some design development. However wheather that actually happens has yet to be seen.... today i have done no work and just shopped but its only my first day. I will have to get cracking at some point though as when i get back to uni there are only a few weeks for making my final samples and everything is going to be hectic and i will be pulling my hair out OH THE JOY!

Sabrina Ward Harrison

Whilst researching some artists i came across Sabrina Ward Harrisons. Her work consists of photography, college and illustrations. I particularly like her college and illustration work.
Her work is very mess and haphazard with a lot of typography which i like

drawings continued....

some more drawings.... again....
